The movie industry bases a lot of a films initial profit on selling people to pay for a 3 hour or less experience based on a 3 minute trailer. Movies for example, are not given to critics and leave it to them to create their own trailers. Without this freedom the major video game reviewers would not review the games, thus less press, less hype, and less sells. This influences an accepted and unchallenged practice to show video game gameplay. Video games make money selling games people play or selling then cheap enough that people would literally pay for them just to have it.
